Designing and validating a Puzzle Box for manufacturability
Designing a container to the maximum size of 50x50x50mm, while respecting the manufacturing process and making it as efficient as possible to manufacture.
Clasp is the result of my newly formed interest in playing and solving puzzles, which prompted me to try building an extremely simple one-step solution Puzzle Box.
To maximize efficiency in production, the design of the Clasp is such that 5 of the 8 part Puzzle Box are Injection Moulded in the same Mould.
The development of Clasp required a lot of iterative prototypes, to test how the interlocking mechanism would work, and to get the dimensions right. I eventually arrived at a Formula to calculate the appropriate width of the Parts with respect to its Height.
